There is a special moment after every gorilla trek that every visitor remembers not just seeing the gorillas, but receiving the certificate that proves you did it.

After a 3-hour trek through thick bamboo, steep hills, and misty trails, we were rewarded with one magical hour face-to-face with a mountain gorilla family. The silverback watched us calmly while juveniles played just meters away.
Meeting a silverback for the first time is not like seeing an animal . Its like meeting someone.
Back at the starting point, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) ranger presented each trekker with the official Gorilla Trekking Certificate , a document signed, stamped, and earned with a sweet sweaty nature hike through the thick hilly forest.

You contributed directly to conservation. 30% of your permit fee goes to protecting these endangered animals.

Bwindi is open year-round. The best months are June-September and December-February.

The Gorilla Permit. Your Golden Ticket
Without it, there is no trek.
In Uganda (Bwindi & Mgahinga) it costs $800 per person for Foreign Non-Residents
In Rwanda (Volcanoes National Park), it costs $1,500 per person
Only 8 visitors per gorilla family per day, for 1 hour. That’s why Bwindi is limited and precious.
Our advice is that you have to book 3-6 months in advance, especially for the dry season (June-September & December-February). We at Kimed Eco Tours secure your permit directly from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and send you the receipt . No middleman.
That official certificate you see tourists holding at the end? You only get it after you successfully track the gorillas. It’s signed by UWA and worth framing.
When is the Best Time to Visit Uganda?
Dry Season (June-September & December-February) Best for Trekking
Trails are less muddy, hiking is easier, and photography is clearer. This is peak season.
Green Season (March-May & October-November) Best for Value & Photos
The forest is at its greenest, there are fewer tourists, and lodges often give discounts. Yes, you will get mud but porters and our boots will handle it. Some of our best treks happen in the green season.
How Difficult is Gorilla Trekking?
Bwindi means “Impenetrable” for a reason. Expect 2 to 6 hours of hiking through steep, dense forest at 1,160m – 2,600m altitude.
But don’t worry , we request a gorilla family based on your fitness. We have Easy (nearby), Medium, and Hard (deep) families. You must be 15 years or older.
Hire a porter ($20). Best advice ever. They carry your bag, hold your hand on steep slopes, and the money directly supports local families.
